G8 buys 20% share of childcare app to boost flexible working options for educators

G8 Education bought a 20% share of a Queensland-based company Kidan on-demand childcare app, in a move that G8 CEO Gary Carroll has described as a way to explore more diverse learning and care options for children and families, as well as explore flexible work options for educators.

Kiddo was founded by Rebecca Dredge in 2019 to provide families in South East Queensland with access to over 3,000 skilled carers. The company now has 12,000 users and has continued to grow strongly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, launching a new “Find a Nanny” service last month for parents looking for additional childcare options. for their children.

Strategic collaboration with G8 Education hopes to further support the evolution of care needs of Australian families, offering flexible and diverse childcare options in more locations.

Thanks to this new partnership, the Kiddo app will be made available to more families across the country, creating an online childcare resource relevant to today’s market.

“The dynamics of Australian workplaces have changed since the COVID-19 crisis with millions of parents are doing more work from home,” Ms Dredge explained.

“Kiddo is delighted to work with G8 Education to provide flexible, convenient and quality care that matches current market demands.”

Commenting on behalf of the G8, Mr Carroll said the investment will enable Kiddo to facilitate access to care outside of centre-based services, providing flexibility for families and carers.

“Our goal is to create the foundations of lifelong learning and that means being adaptive to the changing needs and preferences of our families and educators,” he said.

“Delivering high quality early learning outcomes through excellent center teams remains our key priority, but changes to workforce and childcare arrangements since COVID-19 are influence the delivery of early learning services.

Kiddo allows parents to book an on-the-go babysitter with as little notice as two hours and get extra support whether they need help with homeschooling, a day to work from home, or for a date night. the Kiddo app can be downloaded from Google Play or from the App Store.
