Introducing the TurningPoint Desktop App | Digital Learning Office

The Turning desktop app lets you ask probing questions in a PowerPoint presentation (PowerPoint poll), in addition to any classroom presentation tools (Query anywhere), in person or remotely via Zoom. It also has the ability to administer paper-based classroom exams, where students score answers by turning rather than a scantron or paper test (Survey at your own pace).

The desktop app is called Turning. When you launch the TurningPoint app and sign in to your Turning account, you will be taken to the TurningPoint Dashboard. There are three tabs at the top of the dashboard: Vote, Contentand Manage. the Vote the tab is where you select a polling function and start polling; this is the default dashboard tab. the Content The tab is where you import, create, and/or edit content—questions for the survey. the Manage The tab is where you manage the list of courses, review or edit session files, manage your survey data, run reports, and upload results to WebCampus.

[Figure 1] A screenshot of the TurningPoint desktop app dashboard. The three tabs (Poll, Content, and Manage), the three poll options (PowerPoint Poll, Poll Anywhere, and Self-Paced Poll), and the Enable Mobile Responses button are all highlighted.

There are three query functions: PowerPoint poll, Query anywhere and Survey at your own pace.

PowerPoint poll is the most frequently used because the poll is seamlessly integrated into PowerPoint presentations. It allows you to add poll/quiz questions to new or existing PowerPoint presentations. Clicking on Start now under PowerPoint Polling opens Microsoft PowerPoint, where you will find a TurningPoint ribbon (PC version). For Mac users, TurningPoint appears as a floating bar in Microsoft PowerPoint. Here you can insert polling questions between existing presentation slides.

Query anywhere can accomplish a similar polling experience if you are not using PowerPoint for your conference. With Anywhere Polling, you can create a list of questions in advance or ask questions on the fly in class. It can be used on any content including web pages and videos.

Survey at your own pace transforms traditional paper-and-pencil/scantron exams into paper-turning exams. Students use the Turning app to enter answers to exam questions. It eliminates the need to use scantrons and also allows question/answer randomization.
