Maryland wins share of 2022 Big Ten women’s lacrosse title

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team secured a share of the 2022 Big Ten conference title on Saturday afternoon with their 15-9 win over Northwestern at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md. . It’s the Terrapins’ sixth Big Ten championship (first since 2019), with Maryland having a chance to win the all-conference title next weekend.

A pair of juniors paved the way for the Terrapins on Saturday, as strikers Libby May scored a career-high seven goals, and goalie Emily Sterling made a career-best 16 saves. Northwestern was paced by the grad student midfielder Jill Girardiwho scored three goals.

Maryland (14-1, 5-0 Big Ten) will wrap up its regular season schedule at noon (ET) on April 30 with a visit to Michigan. This game will be televised live to national audiences on ESPNU, and will also be available on the ESPN app. The Terrapins will claim the all-time Big Ten title with a victory, while a loss to Maryland will give Northwestern (13-3, 5-1) a share of the conference championship.

The Big Ten tournament will be played May 6 (semi-finals) and 8 (championship) at SHI Stadium on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ – all three tournament games will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and the FOX Sports app. The full Big Ten tournament roster, including start times, will be released after the regular season ends on April 30.
